ADULT SUNGLASSES
What Kind of Sunglasses Should I Have?
Quality, 100% UVA and UVB blocking, polarized sunglasses are a great investment. They help protect your eyes and also significantly reduce glare, which increases the clarity of your vision. Our opticians are very knowledgeable on sun protection and would be happy to assist you in finding the perfect sunglasses frame and lens type for your prescription. In many cases, vision insurance benefits can also be used for prescription sunglasses.
Your vision insurance may include a benefit towards the purchase of prescription sunglasses. Your human resources department or insurance company can let you know!
UV (Ultraviolet Radiation) Exposure Statistics:
- UV exposure damages more than just your skin. Studies have indicated that UV exposure can contribute to problems with eye health, such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
- UV exposure can also cause skin cancer around the eyes on the surrounding skin and lids.
- The strongest UV exposure happens between 10 am to 4 pm.
- UV rays are stronger during spring and summer months but is important to have sun protection all year round.
As parents, it’s good to keep in mind that children receive 80% of their lifetime sun exposure before they are 18 years old! It’s very important to protect their eyes (and yours) with a quality pair of sunglasses.
Remember, you wouldn’t spend a long time outdoors without sunblock on your skin… protect your eyes as well! We only get two of them!
