- What is myopia?
Myopia, often referred to as nearsightedness, is a common refractive error of the eye where close objects are seen clearly, but distant objects appear blurry. This occurs when the eyeball is too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light rays to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. As a result, individuals with myopia have difficulty seeing objects in the distance, while nearby objects remain clear. Myopia typically develops during childhood and tends to worsen gradually until early adulthood.
- How can myopia be managed?
Myopia cannot be reversed, but it can be slowed down with proper treatment. Below are some of the treatment options we use at Kirman Eye to slow the progression of myopia
MiSight® 1 day* soft contact lenses are specifically designed for myopia control. MiSight 1 day is the first and only FDA approved soft contact lens for myopia control in age-appropriate children. MiSight 1 day helps slow the elongation of the eye and myopia progression, while fully correcting refractive error. Addressing axial elongation helps to reduce the risk of myopia-related vision complications later in life, including irreversible vision loss.
